MAKING THE NEWS
Story Ideas That Get Media Attention ...

Start With
A Great
IDEA!

Great publicity starts with a great story idea.  Often that means doing something that’s a worthwhile activity on its own, but that has added value as a news hook for a media story featuring your store, product or service.  Here are a few ideas designed to get media attention:

Create
A List

  • Create a list of tips to help consumers become better shoppers.

Stage A
Contest

  • Stage a contest of skills.  For example, invite kids to enter a Mother’s Day contest, offering a special prize for Mom as the prize. Take a photo of the winner and include it with your press release.

Conduct
A Survey
  • Conduct an opinion poll. Survey customers to determine the popularity of style trends, or purchase habits.  Then inform the media of the poll results.

Introduce
A Program
  • Introduce a new service or program.  For example, offer a registry in which busy people craving convenience can fill out a quick form for automatic deliveries, or reminders at pre-selected times of the year.

Recognize
Employees
  • Identify employees with unusual backgrounds or outside interests, and invite the media to prepare a feature story about each one.
